How To Change a Diaper
How To Change a Diaper
Gather Supplies
The first step to changing a diaper is to gather all the necessary supplies and place them at your changing table or changing pad. You should have a clean diaper, wipes, and, depending on your baby’s needs, some type of diaper cream. Be sure the area is flat and clean before setting your baby down.
Take the Diaper Off
Carefully unfasten and remove your baby’s dirty diaper. If there is any poop, use the front half of the diaper to wipe most of it away, if possible. From there, you can either fold the dirty diaper and place it aside or immediately dispose of it in a diaper pail.
Clean Your Baby
Once the dirty diaper is gone, clean your baby’s bottom and genitals. Be sure to clean between skin folds, and use a mild diaper cream if needed to prevent diaper rash. If your baby is a boy, you may need to act fast to avoid getting peed on! If your baby is a girl, remember to wipe from front to back to avoid exposing her genitals to bacteria.
Put the New Diaper On
After cleaning your baby, slide a new, clean diaper underneath them. The diaper's back side should be up to their waist. Then, bring the front and back of the diaper together between your baby's legs and secure it for a comfortable yet snug fit. You can always adjust it if you don't get it right.
